It starts, runs for anywhere from 2-7 minutes, I get the web interface, but then it crashes. And I’m never able to get a connection with the Roku. Is there a log file I can extract that might help? I can’t find a mt-daapd log. I found a “simba” log, does that help? Do I need to do anything in the configuration to create a log file?

It might be metadata that it doesn’t like, or it might be the “crash on connect” issue other folks are reporting.

If it’s metadata, you’ll see that in a log. Set up a logfile to somewhere you can get to it with a pc. (maybe the music directory?) and set the debug level to 9. Then restart the server. Once it crashes, take a look at the last few lines o fhte debug log. It will give info about what song it was scanning, and then you can move that out of the way ( or rename the extension so it doesn’t get scanned).

If you do find a file that’s crashing it, PLEASE SAVE IT. I’d like to see it.

If it’s the connect issue, I’m going to try and push a new nightly to night.

I’ve heard there might be other, older, more stable versions of firefly that I might try. Can you tell me exactly how to go about changing the version?

Please remember that I had to change my download path to http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/nslu2/feeds/optware/mss/cross/unstable
in order to follow the other firefly mss installation instructions.

And please go easy… this is the first time I have ever tried to do anything like this!

    Thanks,

    Josh

I figured out how to upgrade to 1673.

I can get the server started by entering this in putty when i telnet to my mss, ip 192.168.1.102:
    /opt/lib/ld.so.1 /opt/sbin/mt-daapd -f -c /opt/etc/mt-daapd/mt-daapd.conf -y -d9

Once it is running, when I look at the web interface, I see this:
    Client IP Action
    192.168.1.100 Serving xml-rpc method

When I try to connect to the server, firefly stops, and I can no longer use the web interface.

the IP address of my Linksys WRT54GS is 192.168.1.1

I set a static IP of 192.168.1.102 for the MSS

I think the roku is dynamic IP, currently 192.168.1.103

Is there a setting I need to change on the soundbridge, firefly, linksys or mss to turn “Client IP Action 192.168.1.100 Serving xml-rpc method” into something where the IP address = the soundbridge?

It’s working – not playlists yet, but at least something…

Here’s the last things I did:

Welcome to the SoundBridge Shell version 3.0.44 Release
Type ‘?’ for help or ‘help ‘ for help on .

    SoundBridge> ipset
ipset: Changing configuration for Wireless interface

    ipset: (A)utomatic or (M)anual Configuration (A/M)? m
    ipset: (M)anual Configuration

ipset: IP Address? 192.168.1.103ipset: Subnet Mask? 255.255.255.0ipset:
Default Gateway? 192.168.1.1ipset: DNS Server 1? 198.168.1.1ipset: DNS Se
    rver 2? 198.168.1.1
ipset: configuration succeeded and will take effect on next boot

    SoundBridge> reboot
    r

When the soundbridge came back up, it asked for a password. I entered mt-daapd, and voila!

I am able to browse artist and albums. The playslist all came up empty, but at least I have music.

Re the playlists, I think my issues might have to do with the way iTunes is set up. A few questions:

Here is how things are set up in iTunes:
The iTunes music folder location is set to Y:My MusiciTunesiTunes Music

“Keep iTunes Music folder organized” is checked

“Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to librbary” is unchecked

FYI, the “My Music” folder on Y (the MSS) has a lot of album folders in addition to the iTunes folder, which seems to have duplicate album information, but in a more “iTunesy” format.

    On the firefly gui:

In the firefly gui, the music folder is set to /shares/mss-hdd/Compaq_Owner/My Music/

To get playlists created in iTunes to work on the MSS/Firefly through the Roku, what should the following be set to?

The iTunes music folder location ?
“Keep iTunes Music folder organized” ?
“Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to librbary” ?
    The Firefly GUI music folder?

Thanks to anyone that can help. I’m very happy right now to have anything playing from the MSS/Firefly, even if I do have to get it started with /opt/lib/ld.so.1 /opt/sbin/mt-daapd -f -c /opt/etc/mt-daapd/mt-daapd.conf -y -d9. That’s the next thing I hope to figure out how to fix…

I’m not quite as close as thought…

After I had everything almost working, I shut down my pc, and everything stopped. The roku could no longer connect to the mss or the internet, and could not even display the time or play internet radio without the pc on.

I reset to the roku to factory defaults, getting DHCP working again, got rid of 198.162.1.103 in the Linksys list of static IPs, then rebooted the mss, and started firefly by typing “/opt/lib/ld.so.1 /opt/sbin/mt-daapd -f -c /opt/etc/mt-daapd/mt-daapd.conf -y -d9”, and was able to get everything working again. Even the firefly server, albeit without iTunes playlists.

    With respect to MSS, why does typing “/opt/lib/ld.so.1 /opt/sbin/mt-daapd -f -c /opt/etc/mt-daapd/mt-daapd.conf -y -d9”? work, but not “/opt/etc/init.d/S60mt-daapd”?

And what can I do to make it so firefly always starts when the MSS reboots, so that I don’t have to turn on the PC, telnet, and
    enter “/opt/lib/ld.so.1 /opt/sbin/mt-daapd -f -c /opt/etc/mt-daapd/mt-daapd.conf -y -d9”?

I’m also hoping someone responds to the post above with the correct settings in iTunes/Firelfy to get the playlists working.

Here is some output I snatched from the stuff that wizzes by when I start firefly as explained above:

Here is some more information that might be helpful. It seems firefly will start and run with the PC on and /opt/lib/ld.so.1 /opt/sbin/mt-daapd -f -c /opt/etc/mt-daapd/mt-daapd.conf -y –
    d9

But as soon as I close the telnet session, everything stops working. Please see below.

As far as the playlists go, copy your “iTunes Music Library.xml” to the music directory on the server and it should pick it up.

You may want to go into the web interface and make sure that “process playlists”, and “process itunes” are both set to “yes”.
