What platforms support this firmware?
I think all the ASUS devices.
The site of the firmware is http://oleg.wl500g.info/ an alternative for this firmware is OpenWRT.
If necessary, I’m willing to try that firmware and check if it solves something.
However, I’m still convinced that it’s something authorization related. Any idea why the “chown” command is necessary? (see previous posts…)
Whenever the new nightly is available, I hope we have some more loglines to analyse…
Thanks for you effort !!!
17/04/2007 at 8:49 AM #8888AnonymousInactiveI’m running Oleg’s firmware (not yet upgraded to the latest – 1.9.2.7-7g) on a WL500g deluxe but it is also available for all other variations of the 500g and for the 300g WLHDD.
Firmware and details here http://oleg.wl500g.info/

Ron,
During installation/upgrade, I get the following message:
chown: unknown user name: guest
chown: unknown user name: guest
Can this be the cause (I don’t know from what you want to change the owner…)
Maybe this helps, more feedback in some minutes…
I added a guest account and that gets rid of the error message but doesn’t make firefly work when as a daemon.

It’s trying to chown /opt/var/mt-daapd, to make it writable by the daemon, but that’s not the issue. It’s got some other problems as well. Hopefully I’ll have a better idea what’s going on after next nightly — some extra debug info that might help.

Don’t know if this is of much use to you, maybe I should ship my device so you can experiment yourself π

Just got an asus wl-hdd today, I’ll install firmware for it tonight or tomorrow and have a testing platform myself. I think the original wl-hdd is a pretty slim machine, hope it has enough horsepower to run it. π

— RonWell, in the beginning, I experimented a little bit with Twonkymusic, and this was quite fast. There you could also do some performance increasements (mimimizing the search tree that was build, …).
However, twonky is off course not firefly π
As FF is really build for the SB, and can be used for iTunes, my decision was rapidly made! When I started the FF in foreground with debuglevel 9, it indeed took some time to get all the artists (50gb of music), but I supposed this was due to the logging.
Nevertheless, the WL-HDD maybe indeed somewhat on the slim side, but whenever I manage to get it up & running 8) , I’ll start a new thread about “performance tuning on slim devices” π

Gack. I didn’t get a chance to work with it all weekend. I got as far as plugging in the hard drive and downloading the firmware, but that’s it. I did see that I think I’m using the wrong build chain, though, so I’m going to try a different chain and see what that does.

I think the build chain is ok (FF did work in foreground); prolly more an authorization/root account/ … issue when running in background, no? β
