ParticipantSince the new soundbridge beta supports apple lossless I decided to play with it a bit. I converted some flac files to m4a using dbpoweramp and rescanned. They show up in itunes and on the soundbridge as apple lossless. When I play them on itunes nothing happens – counter stays stuck at 0 and the log says:
2006-12-24 09:56:22 (b5c2bba0): Session 0: Streaming file ’01 – 100 Years.m4a’ to 192.168.2.19 (offset 0)

There are a couple forum topics about that. Lemme look for them.

2006-12-24 14:24:03 (b6c1bba0): Write error: Broken pipeLooks like it either doesn’t like the metainfo, or it’s not decoding it properly. I’d post that on the roku forum and see if RokuMike would take a look at it. I think he’s on vacation for another week or so, though.
Do you have an iTunes created one you could test with?

Participantposted on the roku beta forum …
I’ll poke around for an itunes encoded file and report back:
report is that itunes encoded file works fine both using itunes client and soundbridge. Does seem to be a tag related issue with soundbridge
If I transcode flac->alac using max and then add the fast start tag info using mp3tag I have the same problem, works in itunes not soundbridge

ParticipantI have a Roku Soundbridge 1001 running 2.7 beta 4 with a NSLU2 running unslung 6.8 beta running firefly svn 1643 from Dec 17 nightly build. I am serving apple lossless files to my soundbridge with no problems some of my songs were ripped using iTunes 7.02.16 others were ripped using dbpoweramp. I have firefly configured to not transcode ALAC I have used this setup with both wired and wireless connections and it works fine only problem I have is after about 4 hours of playing the soundbridge will stop playback when you try to start playback again it will play 1 song then the Soundbridge will reboot. After the reboot you can select the play list again and it will start playing again for about another 4 hours. I do not know if the problem with the playback stopping is with firefly or the soundbridge I hope to try using Itunes this weekend to serve the soundbridge and see if it also stops playback after aprox 4 hours.

That actually won’t test the same stuff… serving iTunes it uses daap, not rsp, while when connected to firefly it uses rsp.
If the soundbridge reboots, though, there is definitely a soundbridge problem of some sort.

ParticipantWell I tried the Itunes serving apple lossless last night and same problem with the Soundbridge stopping playback after 4 plus hours and start playing the next song and it plays fine but when the next one on the list tries to start the Soundbridge reboots so its not a firefly problem with apple lossless which I did not think it was in the first place seems there is some problem with the 2.7 beta 4 software and apple lossless. But 4 plus hours between problems is not that bad is usable.

ParticipantI’ve continued to play around with this and there does seem to be a mt-daapd specific problem in addition to problems with alac files produced with some programs. I am now running svn-1498 and soundbridge 2.7beta 7. There is a program called Omni Encoder (see hydrogenaudio) which uses itunes to encode alac and aac into m4a files and to write the tags. The resulting file will stream to itunes or a soundbridge when served by itunes. When served by mt-daapd it works fine to itunes but croaks ( Write error: Broken pipe) with the soundbridge – perhaps an rsp problem.
For a sample file see:

ParticipantIt is rsp. If I delete the rsp plugins to force daap then I can stream alac to the soundbridge no problem (once the m4a files are fast start enabled using mp4creator).
By the way daap from svn-1498 to the latest soundbridge beta is all messed up browsing generates a whole bunch of empty albums – in addition to the albums for the artist you are browsing to.
