I’m a newbie and I found that my Maxtor Shared Storage Plus 300GB has a mt-daapd 0.2.1.1 running and I’m using iTunes 6.0.4. Now I want to upgrade to 0.2.4 and I need a detailed upgrage instruction.

Anyone out there who can help me?

I can’t really, as I don’t have a mss. But I think the first thing you have to do is upgrade firmware to openmss:

    http://www.openmss.org/Firmware/OpenMSS

Once you have that, I think it supports unslung optware, so it should just be a matter of doing “ipkg update; ipkg install mt-daapd”.

    Thanks,

I think that you’re on the right way but on ipkg-website the actual version is 0.2.1.1 so the mt-daapd package is not in the update list.

Strange. if it supports nslu2 optware, why don’t the upgrade their ipkg tree? Looks like you can make your own build tree using:

    http://www.openmss.org/Development/Optware

Then get the sources and “make OPTWARE_TARGET=mss mt-daapd-ipk”.

You should grind for a pretty long while and end up with a mt-daapd ipk file in the “build” directory that you can install.

    How much is the mss?

    Hi,

my server is now up and running. I found a pre-compiled package under http://ipkg.openmss.org/testing/.

To install packages from this place the path must be added to the ipkg.conf file. After doing that I was able to install the new server. When the original server is running, the update runs into an error, starting the second server.

After installing I had two servers on my MSS, the original 0.2.1.1 from my MSS and the new one. I disabled the the original one by the maxtor http-configuration, so that the installed mt-daapd is started via init.d.

Now I can also access the mt-daapd web interface. The original web on my MSS only shows the GNU license and nothing more.

The price for my 300GB MSS was 250,– €

Thanks for your help and tips.
