I have the perception FF is kinda slow in initial loading of 32000 music files
What could be a good average time per 1000 files?

my 32000 take about 900 seconds, ie 15 minutes

    cheers,
    fd0

Those ext3 on a local drive? And is it sqlite2 or sqlite3?

Seems like I do 6K in about 90 sec (?), so that makes you slow by a about a half. What kind of files are they?

Filesystem is ReiserFS, lvm on md (may only be bad on writes, not reads)
    most files (99%) are .mp3
db backend is sqlite3, gentoo has no support for sqlite2 afaik

I’m assuming that’s raid1? Are the drives on different controllers, or are they master and slave on same controller?

The md devices are raid1 (mirror). 6 disks with own controllers (parallel ata)
