The reason that you see the problem is related to differences in the encoded files. If you have problem files, you can encode them with a older version of FLAC and they will play fine with both older and newer decoders.

Thanks once more. I did that earlier, but there was no change, the song still was not playable. But inspired by your last post, I downgraded even further to 1.1.2 (I only went to 1.1.4 earlier) and now the song is playable! So, until things change, I will go for this encoder now (at least for larger files). Do you have any idea what the drawbacks of this will be?

(Thanks again, by the way, good to be able to play these songs again.)

Unless you need the extra features of the newer encoder and format revisions such as album art, the only real downside is that the file size will be maybe 2% – 3% larger (not normally an issue) and the encoding speed may well be quite a bit slower (again seldom an issue especially if only done for problem files). Decoding should be unaffected.

You’re welcome – glad I could help. Happy Christmas!

[Edit] Just did a quick test – my Roberts WM-201 plays Autobahn encoded with 1.2.1 perfectly when streamed using TwonkMedia without any transcoding. The Roberts supports FLAC natively and I think that is using 1.1.3 or 1.1.4 as the decoder. Very pleased about that.

Could someone give me a hint how I downgrade? I installed FLAC via apt-get on Ubuntu 7.10 which only gives me 1.1.4 to begin with. However, I have the exact same problem.
I tried to download the source for 1.1.0 fromm Sourceforge, but it wouldn’t compile (I removed the 1.1.4 before).
    Anybody got an idea?
