I have just bought a Soundbridge and got it connected to my network, it connects to my FireFly server and finds all my songs. When I try to play a song it says “Unable to play”

I have now noticed that my iTunes can still see the server and all the tracks but I can not play them. Every time I press play on the soundbridge, iTunes or FirePlay it counts as a song served but no music.

Any help will be greatly appreciated as no music is no good.

    THanks

This probably means firefly tries to send the song, but it is not found or cannot open it.
Have you by any chance moved the files, or gave them other permissions?
Try removing the database and/or doing a full rescan.

I tried removing var/cache/mt-daapd/songs.db and then doing a full rescan but it didn’t create a new db file. I have not knowingly moved any files or permissions. This is an example of the log when I restart mt-daapd and try to play some songs from iTunes.

Well the log file explicitly states the problem. It cannot find the files.
Linux is case sensitive, and for as far as I know, the /home/ dir is always lowercase. So there is no way it will be able to find the music.

    Also, the dir says /home/shared/music
Shared, possibly from an external drive? Possibly this drive was removed or remounted with a different name?

Indeed, the db did not get recreated. Try shutting down firefly, removing the db, and restarting firefly. That should do the trick.
(Could take a while on restart, as firefly does a scan before running web adminpage)

The thing that threw me was it has been working fine for months. I have changed the config file to case sensitive YES and all is fine over the net, will try the SoundBridge tonight.

    THanks for your help.

    Glad to help.
As the problem was caused server-side, any client should work.
I assume the soundbridge will work aswell. 🙂
