    Hi!
I encountered following problem after moving all my mp3’s to another physical disk. I mounted the new disk like the old mp3-partition before into /home/mp3

Now, trying to connect to daapd via iTunes:

2005-10-04 17:04:07: Cannot find item.... corrupt database?
    2005-10-04 17:04:07: Aborting
2005-10-04 17:04:07: Rendezvous socket closed (daap server crashed?) Aborting.
    2005-10-04 17:04:07: Aborting

I just played around a little bit and found out, that no problems occour, if the database is stored in the same physical drive as the mp3s.

Is this a bug in mt-daapd?
I solved the problem for me. Perhaps this will help you others…

    Edit: I’m using 0.2.3

This is a known and well documented issue. [1], [2] to illustrate but two explanations.

Briefly, the current stable release version catalogues the location of a music file based upon its inode. In almost all instances, when moved, the file acquires a new inode number. However, the existing database does not know this and will return an error.

To fix, kill the mt-daapd process; delete the songs.gdb file; restart mt-daapd. The daemon will then rescan the tree and reindex the file locations.

    P.S.
I have added this to the FAQ.
