Oh, I just noticed my log looks like this. Perhaps this provides more clues. I uninstalled SqlServer 2000 recently while trying to troubleshoot the problems that ended up being bad RAM. Related?

    Oh, and one more tidbit:

Both SoundBridges see my iTunes 7.0 server on my Windows Server 2003 machine (the one with the invisible FireFly). Of course this does me no good given the SoundBridge iTunes 7.0 incompatability.

I’m about to just revert to iTunes 6.0x

    * On my Windows Server 2003 machine, FireFly _was_ working fine. However, the RAM went bad, so I replaced it. After that, my SoundBridges stopped seeing the FireFly server on the Windows Server 2003 machine.

Sounds very likely that with crapped ram it corruped the database.

Try going into c:program filesfirefly media server and deleting the songs.db (with the server not running). Then start hte server. If it still doesn’t go (after giving it *plenty* of time to scan the files), then run the debug version from the program group entry and cut/paste the last 20 or so lines from the log file (c:program filesfirefly media serverfirefly.log) here.

    * I uninstalled Bonjour and FireFly, then reinstalled both.

Worth trying a nightly as well (http://nightlies.mt-daapd.org) if everything else fails. There is a bonjour bug fixed in the last couple weeks that could possibly be it, although I’d suspect database problems first.

The contrib stuff is completely unrelated on a windows install.

    Hi,

Thanks for the quick response. I deleted the db file (and others that started with songs.db, like songs.db-0pjayyuz9t7j1xlvv17l (there were six such files) and restarted the server. I let it scan my music files overnight (28.8k+ mp3 files). This morning, after restarting the server via the UI, I could see the FireFly server from my SoundBridge! Woo hoo!

However, I’m still unable to view the web administration interface. With IE 7.0, I get “The page cannot be displayed”. After the first attempt, in which I get “The page cannot be displayed”, all subsequent attempts with IE 7.0 result in a blip, in which it appears the browser launches briefly and then disappears. But really, it happens so fast that it appears as if nothing happens.

    With FireFox…

Ok, wait. As I went to test FireFox, all of the sudden the web admin interface STARTED WORKING! I have NO idea what I did. It honestly just started working between the time when I typed my first words of this post and now.

I was also going to say that I ran the debug version. It launched a command window and appeared to be going through my music library. I left my computer to let it run for about 30 min. When I returned, the window was gone and FireFly was not running. I looked for firefly.log file you mentioned and can only find one with yesterday’s date, so it appears to be old. In any case, here are the last 20 or so lines, for what it’s worth.

Now I’m noticing that the FireFly server only runs for a few minutes, then the server stops. During that brief time, things work ok (I can see it from SoundBridge and the web admin page works).

The log is similar (if not identical) to what is in my most recent post.

For what it’s worth, the mp3 file just prior to the “Aborting” message above is not new. My installation of FireFly before my RAM going bad didn’t barf on it.

    Thanks,

That looks like a “file name too long” thing. 260 chars is the limit for libc based file ops. Later nightlies might work better, as uses a different api for that stuff that might allow for longer file names.

In any event, is that a real filename, or is that the result of file system corruption?

I looked more into that file and found that the cd has 12 mp3’s and one *.m3u playlilst. The playlist is called “John Fahey – Old Girlfriends and Other Horrible Memories-http.m3u”. Inside it, each song is listed as a URL, like this: “http://1qaz:[email protected]/mpthree/jstan/Downloads/John%20Fahey%20-%20Old%20Girlfriends%20and%20Other%20Horrible%20Memories/John%20Fahey%20-%2001%20-%20Twilight%20Time.mp3”. No idea why this is (I didn’t create the files), but that seems to be where FireFly was getting its information. iTunes saw the same thing in the last version and I was stumped. Now I know where the info came from. Doesn’t look like corrupted file.

In any case, I downloaded the latest nightly and it worked! The file above is found an plays just fine via SoundBridge with FireFly.

I have two other questions that are unrelated to setup. You’ll see a new post from me elsewhere.

    Thanks for all your help!
