I’ve just unslung my NSLU2, and am trying to install the latest nightlies per Rich Dunlop’s instructions on the Firefly Wiki. It takes the echo command OK and goes back to the # prompt. When I enter “ipkg update”, it comes back with a ‘Host Name Lookup Failure’ for each of the four packages it is trying to download. The telnet window is copied below:

It’s one of two things. Either your gateway settings are incorrect, or your DNS settings are incorrect.
Generally, these should *both* be the ip address of your cable modem. You can verify that from your PC by doing “ipconfig /all” from a command prompt. You should see the default gateway and your dns server. Make sure the default gateway and dns server for your nslu2 are the same.

Thanks! That did the trick, no problem to d/l and install the packages after that.However….
Following the Wiki directions, after install I tried to use the Firefly web interface to set my directory and scan interval. I entered http://192.168.1.77:3689, and got back a ‘Page Cannot Be Displayed’ error from Internet Explorer. I have no problem connecting to the SLUG web interface using http://192.168.1.77, and the SLUG is set to a static IP. Any ideas of what I’ve mucked up now?

well, you gotta change the mp3_dir in the config file manually to get firefly to start up, then the web config stuff is accessible.
If you already ensured that the current mp3_dir is readible and executable to the user firefly is running as, You might just have to wait a while because the initial scan can easily take a few minutes if you throw a good number of mp3s at firefly. 😉
Hmm, maybe Firefly didn’t start. As a simple fix try rebooting as Firefly should come up automatically. If not then we can advise you how to debug the situation.

Thanks, I’ll reboot when I get home later and see what happens. The way I read the Wiki instructions was that I could use the web interface to set the directory, contrary to what Fizze said above. Do I need to set it manually in the config using telnet first? It can’t be scanning for very long, I’ve only currently got two albums in the music directory. I’m getting things running right first before I load a lot of music on the drive….

Fizze’s post crossed with mine but you may well need to do as Fizze says. It depends on how your music share is set up. Are you comfortable with telnet and the vi editor? The config file Fizze is referring to is /opt/etc/mt-daapd/mt-daapd.conf.
Rebooting the SLUG got Firefly running and access to the web interface, and my SB now sees it as a music server. I just finished muddling through pointing it to the music directory, and the music is streaming to the SB. Many thanks to y’all for the hand-holding, I’m sure I’ll be back with other questions. Such as, is there a guide somewhere to all the fields and settings that are on the Firefly web interface pages?
