I definitely didn’t get any e-mail reply from you. I’ll check the syslog tonight although it has now been quite a few days since that error so depending on how the log is cycled it may not be there anymore. I’ll check tonight.
K, thx. I’m a bit off lately, as I’m in the middle of changing jobs. My stress level has been pretty high, and I’m not quite as proactive as perhaps I should be. π
Good news is have the next week off until my new job starts. Woohoo!

Well, minus the day or two I plan to be tubing down the guadalupe, cold beer in hand. π
21/05/2007 at 8:32 AM #10299SydneyGuyParticipantOK now I am really in trouble. I thought I would update to the the latest nightly but it wont even install. Below is the installation dialog.
I’ll try to install 1571 again and hopefully it will at least get me back to where I was before. It installed first go when I first started playing with Firefly so hopefully it will again …..
…. nope no go. Can’t install 1571 now either so I am dead in the water.
Where to from here???

Segmentation fault (core dumped)That is a different failure point to the first time I tried it so I have absolutely no idea what is going on. I hope I am not resigned to having to run it on my PC rather than my server as the PC is not on all the time when I want to play music on my SoundBridge.
21/05/2007 at 10:06 PM #10301SydneyGuyParticipantNo word from Ron overnight π Maybe he has gone away on his river tubing expedition????
I’ll just use Firefly on my PC to stream my music for now until we can sort out the problem on my server.

Not yet. Today, if it doesn’t rain.
As far as the packages, try installing sqlite2 by itself. Also, do you get any messages in your syslog? How much memory does this have? (cat /proc/meminfo).
I wonder if it could be a hardware problem — memory or something. Or maybe just running out of memory. DO you have swap enabled?

I did try that and it worked. I then went back to installing the main package and it then gave me the same error when install the mt-daapd part. I again went back to square one and removed all the pre-req packages and installed those again. That went fine but then I had the same problems again with the Firefly stuff.
Also, do you get any messages in your syslog?
Sorry but I don’t know where syslog is and a few attempts to find it were fruitless.

Total memory is 128MB

It could be a hardware problem but the server seems stable apart from this.
Don’t know about swap. It’s not something I had to setup. These appliance type servers don’t usually let you play with too much. How can I check?
Edit: Actually now I look more closely at the memory info I see some swap information.
SwapTotal: 393464 kB
SwapFree: 384152 kBSo I guess that means that swap is enabled.
I sent you an e-mail regarding this too. Did you receive that?
23/05/2007 at 3:32 AM #10304SydneyGuyParticipantIt’s all fixed … we think. Using some networking wizardry Ron was able to fix my server while I actually watched what he was doing. Amazing stuff really given that neither of us were in the same location as the server!!!!
I’m sure there will be more problems pop up to test us and I will make note of them here but for now all is good …. and I hope it stays that way when I get home tonight and can actually test it by playing some music.
23/05/2007 at 12:23 PM #10305SydneyGuyParticipantOK here’s the latest update. It was all working when I got home tonight and my SoundBridge was able to see the server and play music. But unfortunately it did crash some time later. The entire contents of the log file is below

2007-05-23 19:53:59: AbortingI’m not sure what the meta code errors are. I haven’t seen those before. But the entries after that no doubt have something to do with the crash.
At the time of the crash the server would have been idle, ie not streaming any music, and from the time stamps it doesn’t look like it was doing anything else either.
So we at least got it running but there is still some other bug in there somewhere …….
