    mt-daapd installed on a Kubuntu 8.04 system, i686 architecture.

    The web-based config works.

    Enabled level 9 logging.

I have around 40,000 tracks scattered accross 3 partitions (I added 1 directory per partition).

Crashes after it scans some files.

I purged the install several times and reinstalled. I cannot reproduce this, but at some point (when I did not have the logging enabled) I received in the console, just as I issued “/etc/init.d/mt-daapd start”, the following output:

    root@godzilla:/tmp# *** glibc detected *** /usr/sbin/mt-daapd: double free or corruption (fasttop): 0x0808c3e8 ***

I didn’t know what happened so I purged the install, reinstalled and tried again. No more such backtraces at start, though. In the logs, however, I receive this:

    2009-05-29 01:56:25 (b6cb8b90): Received a message from daap server
2009-05-29 01:56:25 (b6cb8b90): Rendezvous socket closed (daap server crashed?) Aborting.
    2009-05-29 01:56:25: Aborting

If the execution is aborted I thought you’re sending the daemon SIGABRT whose effect is to determine the binary to dump a core.

However, this doesn’t happen. (So the signal sent is not SIGABRT.)

Is there a reasonable explanation for what is happening in regards to these crashes or is there a way to provide more detailed logs/backtraces?

The first error/backtrace seems like a corrupt file. Good thing you purged and reinstalled.
Second one is rather common. Try raising the debuglevel in the config file to 9, so that more detailed information will output to the log.

    Yes, very weird.

Yes, well, unfortunately, I did that. I mentioned it in the first post:

    @Forger wrote:

    Enabled level 9 logging.

Those lines were in the level 9 debugging log. Not really informative.

The only thing that comes to mind is whether I could somehow turn on debugging (more debugging than the logs) supposing I’d actually download the source files and configure the compiling with a switch like “–enable-debug”. Is this possible (i.e. is there such a compiling switch)? Because the quotes in yesterday’s post came from a “stock” install from the Ubuntu repositories.

Strange. Usually when enabling debuglevel 9, the log is way bigger. Try pasting more of the log. You have only posted the few lines which indicate firefly is closing.

Precisely, I only pasted the lines indicating the crash.

The entire log (of multiple sessions) is about 130 MB. : )

However, everything above those lines was in regards to the scanning. Then those lines popped “out of nowhere” and Firefly crashed.

Heh. True. It can get quite big. Try the following.
    Clear the log file.
Restart firefly and wait for it to crash.
Copy the first 20 lines and paste it here.
Copy the last 30 lines and paste it here.

I’ve seen that most errors can be identified from these lines.

All right, will do, in a few hours. That machine is at home and I temporarily powered it off. : )

Alright. Back home. Here’s what I did:

    /etc/init.d/mt-daapd stop
    > /var/log/mt-daapd.log
    rm /usr/var/cache/mt-daapd/*

So, in other words, I stopped the daemon, emptied the log file and also deleted the database.

The beginning of the log that I posted below is quite long — it’s because it complained it can’t find the database and it’s rebuilding it. Everything there seems fine to me.

    Then, the last lines.

Right, so I thought there might be something wrong with that directory. Nothing, really, apart of the fact that the path is rather long:

    root@godzilla:/tmp# ll /home/alex/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files/InstallShield/Professional/RunTime/09/00/Intel32/
    total 1752
    -rw-r--r-- 1 alex alex 69715 2003-09-03 02:27 ctor.dll
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 alex alex 5632 2003-09-03 02:25 DotNetInstaller.exe
    -rw-r--r-- 1 alex alex 184452 2008-05-24 01:00 iGdi.dll
    -rw-r--r-- 1 alex alex 724992 2003-09-03 02:28 iKernel.dll
    -rw-r--r-- 1 alex alex 266240 2003-09-03 02:26 iscript.dll
    -rw-r--r-- 1 alex alex 192512 2003-09-03 02:26 iuser.dll
    -rw-r--r-- 1 alex alex 311428 2008-05-24 01:00 Setup.dll

The directory itself has adequate permissions, as well:

    drwxr-xr-x 2 alex alex 4096 2008-05-24 01:00 Intel32

How can I stress this enough? That directory should *not* have been scanned in the first place! mt-daapd chooses to bypass the mp3_dir variable, as I already said in another post.
