I’m having trouble getting a grip on which version of mt-daapd to use. The latest checkins were on a branch, not the trunk, but the trunk seems to be more recent in some ways. Which should I use? Also, I can’t figure out what features I’d be gaining over one of the recent nightlies or my distro (ubuntu-intrepid)’s default. Can anyone provide some guidance here?

    Thanks,
    Dave

Stick to the nightlies. The versions 1586 and 1696 are the two most stable builds.

Thanks; will do. Regardless, I’d still like to know what sort of things have happened in SVN since 1696.

Looking further into the nightlies and my distro, I see that Ubuntu’s version is based on 1696. The very latest set of updates appears to be http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/m/mt-daapd/mt-daapd_0.9~r1696.dfsg-4ubuntu1.diff.gz, which you can get from http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/mt-daapd. Most of the changes look like improvements. The one that gives me pause is the ripping out of the Apple mDNS code. Can you tell me what you think of that?

    many thanks again.

    Well, licensing issues perhaps?

Also, mDNS isn’t required since ubuntu ships with avahi enabled by default these days. 😉
