Hi,
I set up mt-daapd on my Ubuntu box a while back and I’ve been really happy with the results. Thanks for the great code! π
I’ve got a smart playlist (my favorite) in itunes that I would love to be able to set up in mt-daapd for use with my soundbridge. It’s called “Instrumental Least Recent” The selection criteria are:
Playlist is Instrumental
Limit to 200 songs selected by least recently played
Live updatingI play this with shuffle enabled. This ensures that I’m cycling through my entire collection in an unpredictable order, always hearing the songs that are most “fresh” to me. I’ve got other “least recent” playlists, and they’re my preferred way to shuffle through music.
So I guess what I need that isn’t already there is 1) a way to use another playlist as a building block, 2) a way to limit the number of matches, and 3) a way to sort. It’s probably a pretty tall order, but if you don’t ask, you don’t get. π
Note that you can’t really achieve my goal without sorting and limiting. Solutions involving play count have undesired biases based on the amount of time a song has been in the collection. Solutions based on, say, “songs not played in the last 2 weeks” are close, but you have no assurance that you’re actually cycling through your entire collection.
Cheers, and thanks again,

πThanks, but I already have. What I’m asking for just isn’t possible in the current implementation AFAICT. There’s no way to say “the 200 least recently played songs” using that grammar. There’s also no way to say “songs from playlist X.” π

That’s correct. I hope to add that post-1.0.

Glad to hear it. Thanks!

How do I browse all the information in that wikki you posted there.
I suspect there are more pages like that that will answer questions I have, but I dont know how to get to them.
I tried to go to http://trac.fireflymediaserver.org/wiki but from there there is no more links to the rest of the mt-daapd wikki.

At some point, those will all get rolled into trac, but I’m bandwidth limited right now.
