    There is a directory called /opt on the HD which is where most of the installed progs reside.

    Boot the slug without disk, and mount the HD. Then clear out all of your non-relevant data.
    Like /opt, /etc, /var and the likes.

    Then resling to that drive, and you should be good to go.
