What do you mean with crank the log up to 9?

There is a debuglevel in the config page that you can set how verbose the logs are. If you set it to 9, then you get lots of info.

Double check you don’t have a password set while you are in the config pages.

Oh.. does iTunes work as a client?

Up till now I didn’t use iTunes. Before I used WMC 1.0 and WMC 2.0 on my windows-XP-PC and that was working. Is that enough information or should I really try to install iTunes on my PC?

It might help some — you should be able to connect to the server using iTunes as well. If iTunes worked but the sb didn’t, that would be a datapoint we could get some info from.

    Hi Ron,

Now I know what confused me. I didn’t see the possibility to show the advanced config on the configuration page. I think that displaying that as a button in stead of just a text-string the chance of overlooking will become less.

So I set the debug option to 9.

From the moment I executed the browse/artist on the Roku up till the failed-browse the log-file looks as below:

It looks like there is a problem selecting the 6158 distinct artists. Is my music-library to big?

    Looking forward to your answer.

No, that should probably be fine. I don’t see any obvious errors. Unless there is some kind of badly formed xml returned or something.

Is it possible you could gzip your songs.db and email it to me at [email protected]?

    Hi Ron,

I will try to deliver that for you. I have installed gzip via “ipkg install gzip”. How do I start it? Is it possible to split the zip-file in smaller parts via gzip so I can mail it?

Even though the time setting via the MSS web interface and that viewed via explorer is correct the one recorded in Firefly’s log is 2 hours behind. Is there another location that the time should be set for Firefly? My location is 6 hours behind UTC and DST is off.

Nope, it gets the time from the system, so that must be the time on the machine. You can check by doing a “date” from the console.

Well, not that this is directly related to Firefly but I would of thought that the time/date shown on the MSS web interface was the date stored on that machine but I’m getting conflicting results. I read somewhere on a Wiki about setting this so I’ll have to try and find that again. Hmmmm…

I’ve tried a modified version of what was posted on the FAQ for the MSS – that being:

    # nvram set time_zone=CST+6CST
    # nvram commit
    # ntpclient -h 192.43.244.18 -s
    # hwclock -w
    # reboot

and it seems to be working after a few tries getting it right. I initially relied upon the MSS web interface but I guess I can’t rely on it 100%. In fact, in my searches I did find a post that mentioned the time set feature of the web interface had a bug in it but a version wasn’t mentioned.

    Hi Ron,

I tested with a smaller music-folder. Just one “CD” in it and then it works well. So it looks like there is a limitation on the number of songs in a music-folder.

In the advanced settings I see that it’s possible to select sqlite3 as database type. Do you think it’s possible that version can handle bigger music folders?

    Greetings,
    Rick
PS: Did you receive the compressed songs-database?

I don’t believe it’s a limit on number of songs. There are folks that are running over 100K songs. I did get the database, but haven’t loaded it up yet. I hope to look at it later tonight.
