Hello,
My setup consists of two Soundbridges, and two servers – one is an
WinXp machine running Firefly 1.0 and the other is NSLU2 running the
latest Firelynightly. Both soundbridges can see the XP server (wirelessly)
but can not see the NSLU2 server. I’ve had this problem since I have had
to replace my buffalo wireless router/modem with a Netgear one so I
suspect this is a router issue.I know the firefly server is running on the NSLU2 as I can access its
web configuration page from the PC. I can also ping both soundbridges
from the NSLU2 so I am puzzled as to why they cannot connect to the
Firefly server on it. Please let me know if there is any other information
I can supply to diagnose the problem.Best regards,

I believe firefly announces itself via UDP port 5353 to 224.0.0.somethingThe exact settings to get firefly to work through a firewall have been discussed here in the forums already.
A search will definetely turn up useful results.06/01/2007 at 2:26 AM #8248rpeddeParticipant@pankaj wrote:

There may be an option in the web admin for the router to “enable multicast”, or to “enable IGMP”. If there is, enable it, and it should come right up.
If not, then it’s possible that the router just won’t pass the multicast. Is it too late to swap the buffalo for another model? On the Roku site is a list of the models that work well.

Thank you for your replies. After further investigation, I have found
out that it is indeed a problem with the firmware version on the Netgear
DG834 router that I have.Apparently, multicast is enabled only for wireless to wireless or
wired to wired connection on this router. It is NOT enabled for wireless to
wired or wired to wireless connection. So in my setup, the Soundbriges
which are connected wirelessly to the router, can see the server on the PC
which is also wirelessly connected to the router but cannot see the server
on the NSLU2 which is wired directly to the router. This issue has been
raised on the Netgear forums so hopefully it will be fixed by them.
(see http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=1212 )Also, I would like to thank you for the what I have found to be
the best media server for the Roku Soundbridges. I am particularly
impressed with the speed, reliability and the ease of use of the server.
Keep up the good work !!Regards,
Pankaj -
