Okay, I’m going to need to get some help to prepare for the next stable.
I’m looking for volunteers on several fronts:
1. Packagers for platforms other than those supported by nightlies. Packager responsibilities would include building packages following nightlies to make sure no breakage creeps into the platforms you are supporting.
In addition, for those platforms that don’t really have packages (bsds, for example), someone that could follow nightlies and report platform breakages would be good.
2. Web developer. I need to (at least) fix the nightlies page so it integrates into the http://www.fireflymediaserver.org page, and doesn’t look like a 15 minute hack (which it was. 🙂
I have other projects in mind as well — a web based i18n editor, for example.
I’d prefer to work on this using LAMP.
3. Web developer (ajaxy style) to help with the integrated firefly web interface.
4. Copy editor to help work on tone, formatting, and content of the wiki/manual at http://wiki.fireflymediaserver.org
Your only payment would be the satisfaction of helping an open source project the glory that thus accrues.
Which is less than you might expect, truth be told. 🙂
Any takers? Volunteers please email me at [email protected]

Email me and I can give you the scripts I use to generate packages.

I see the help wanted was posted over a month ago but thought I would still leave a message, I am a hobbyist web developer and have some up and coming spare time, so if you still need help with getting the Nightly page up to speed with the main pages let me know and I would love to help out.
As I’m semi-new here or at least don’t chat much on the forms here are some past works.
http://wkclx.net/ (kinda-broken)
http://wkclx.net/cgi-bin/temp/NewStyle/ (Up but old design)http://orgs.kvcc.edu/midwest/ (Org. I web dev. for)
http://allclone.googlepages.com/psoitemcreation.html (Simple app calc I wrote and threw up a page for)
http://comicproject.wkclx.net/ (start of a site for a buddy)If help has already be organized for the nightly page, just ignore all the above.

I’ve got someone that volunteered to work on a RoR page for it, but I still need some help with the web based admin, if you are up for some kind of ajaxy framework.
I’d really like an integrated player and stuff for it. I’ll eventually get to it, as *I* want that, but I wouldn’t push away help from anyone that would be willing to play with it.
Let me know if you’d be interested.

It looks like I’m going to have several free days threw out the rest of the year, though at times I might be busy for a couple of weeks on end, the rest of my time is free.
I have used a few different ajax frameworks but most of my knowledge is with a framework called mootools, I have also used jQuery too.
I have done a lot of things from manual DOM manipulation with JS to web based DB interfaces with PHP & JS. I have also a while back created several ActiveX, JS, VBs, and Flash based media library web app/tools that worked with a database and the web server to provide a Media On Demand kind of system.
I would be happy to help out in anyway you think I might be able to.

02/02/2008 at 4:53 PM #12004reinhapaGuest1. Packagers for platforms other than those supported by nightlies.
I just re-work the spec file to build firefly under Fedora…
10/08/2008 at 12:25 PM #12005masParticipantI think it’s now about 1 year since Ron had to cease active development of the project due to time issues so we better get used to it that there won’t be much development in the near future unless Ron gets some help or someone even volunteers to take it over from him.
Now as the main functions all work and there are reasonably stable versions thats not a drama and no huge thing but nevertheless this could be an interesting task for someone…
So if there is someone willing and able to offer substantial help in the development or possibly even able to take it over then he should speak out. I don’t think Ron would be opposed – time demanding real life jobs can be a bitch and we all understand that I guess…
18/12/2008 at 2:52 PM #12006tmonjaloGuestHello all,
I’m working on mt-daapd.
I’ve already written a basic inotify support: all the files are rescanned when a file has changed or has been added or removed.
I plan to do other improvements. If this project is not maintained anymore, I could fork and retarget it to posix-platform only. Indeed, I’m only interested in running daapd on a server or a NAS.
If you want to discuss with me, I’m available on IRC (at french time) and by email: [email protected]
