Ive just setup a box running Windows Server 2003. Ive got twonky installed to server upnp content to my 360, and ive been trying to get firefly working for my daap/itunes sharing.
Ive gotten firefly working on Windows XP no problem, iTunes quickly connected and listed the whole library. However, on Server 2003, it gets stuck on the “connecting to..” screen and doesnt load the list at all. This happends with both my PC and Mac iTunes.
The log mentions this error:
2007-06-15 00:58:17 (8e109a71): Thread 0: could not read: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.The server doesent have a firewall running at the moment, so none of the ports should be blocked. Firefly has also scanned the directories and found all the music (around 8500 files).
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing the problem? Anyone else running firefly on Server 2003?
Any help is greatly appritiated!

That usually means the client disconnected, but I’m not sure why it would.
Anything in the event log?
Is it the same music files as on the xp box? I ask because I’ve run it on 2k3 successfully.

Ive had a look but i cant see anything related in the event log. Theres plenty of events logging that firefly is re-scanning the folders, but nothing relating to disconnecting.
Yeah, the files are exactally the same ones i shared on XP, only they’ve been copied to the server, and are running on a mirrored RAID 1 array.
Edit: Ive tried it again and i’ve noticed a different error in the log:

Those are normal.
Can you copy a single file to a new directory, then set that directory up as he music directory?
Then try it?
Also, I assume you’ve tried deleting the songs.db and/or doing a full rescan?
Its a bit strange really, certain folders seem to be ok, then others cause the problems i described earlier.
After a bit of messing around, it seems to be related to the number of files being shared. It coped fine when less than 22 songs were being shared, but anymore than that and iTunes cant connect properly. The PC client has more trouble than mac client too, it doesent seem to want to connect at all on the PC, even with the same settings as the mac.
The network itself is ok, i tried using the old Tangerine server and that seemed to work ok, but obviously has nowhere near the same features as firefly.
I’ll keep messing around and see what i can come up with, hopefully theres just something ive missed…
Edit: I can share a single file in a folder on my desktop with most versions ive tried (though i havent had any luck with the latest nightly release), but anything more and it wont connect.

Can you add one at a time until it breaks, then take that one out and verify it works again.
