    Hi there…

I have installed mt-daapd on my new Synology DS-106e, and it works great even tough I think it lacks some better browsing features, but that may be iTunes problem.

The reason for the install is that I want to be able to stream my music to my laptop whereever in the world I am. is that possible? I am using the newest version of iTunes and it might be down to me not understading how iTunes works. Atm when both the server and the client is on the same LAN it just shows up, I belive i need to do something active to make it work over the internet.

Look at this and post back questions if any … Basically, you need to foward your mt-daapd port and then broadcast with a proxy, it’s should be pretty much all in there, I used this myself.

I stream from home to work over internet using Hamachi.

iTunes finds the server without problem.

Third option is indeed exposing the firefly port on the router, setting a good password and using RendezvousProxy to get the local side to discover it.

    See:

    and

    for details.
